Travelers from the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Taiwan, and other 100–127V countries need to be much more careful with single-voltage appliances. Modern dual-voltage electronics are usually fine, but a 110V or 120V-only hair tool or other appliance cannot safely use Senegal’s 230V electricity with only a plug adapter.

Outlets can be limited. In hotels, resorts, guesthouses, apartments, beach accommodations, smaller independently operated stays, and properties outside Dakar, convenient outlets may be in short supply. A travel power strip can make charging several devices much easier.

USB ports are not guaranteed. Do not assume your hotel room, resort, apartment, guesthouse, airport lounge, café, bedside lamp, or beach property will have built-in USB charging.

Hair tools are one of the biggest voltage concerns for travelers from lower-voltage countries. If yours is a single-voltage 100–127V appliance, do not assume it will work in Senegal simply because you have a plug adapter. You need a proper step-down voltage converter, a hotel-provided tool, or a dual-voltage travel version.

Power banks are incredibly useful. Boat trips, wildlife excursions, beach days, long drives, market exploring, day trips, and photo-heavy sightseeing can drain your phone quickly.

Because Senegal uses several different outlet types, a universal adapter is especially useful. You may encounter Type C, D, E, or K sockets, so having one adapter that gives you flexibility is easier than assuming every outlet will be the same.

Once your adapter and voltage situation are handled, you are prepared for Dakar, Gorée Island, Saint-Louis, the Sine-Saloum Delta, Saly, Lac Rose, the Petite Côte, coastal escapes, wildlife trips, cultural sightseeing, and longer Senegal itineraries.

Power access may be more limited when you move beyond larger Dakar hotels and established resorts into smaller guesthouses, beach properties, rural stays, wildlife areas, or more remote parts of the country. If you are spending full days sightseeing, boating, exploring markets, watching wildlife, traveling between destinations, or relying on your phone for bookings, maps, tickets, photos, messages, or transportation details, keep your devices charged when you can and bring a reliable power bank.
