Greece Outlet, Plug & Voltage Guide for Travelers (Complete 2026 Edition) ⚡

Planning a trip to Greece? You’re in for one of the most magical travel experiences in the world.

Greece is a country that feels almost mythic even when you’re standing right in the middle of it: whitewashed villages tumbling down volcanic cliffs in Santorini, the blue-domed churches of Oia glowing at sunset, ancient ruins in Athens where the Acropolis still rises over the city like a memory of another age, and seaside tavernas where the scent of grilled octopus, lemon, oregano, and warm pita drifts through the air.

Head to the islands and you’ll find wildly different moods depending on where you go: Mykonos with its chic beach clubs and cosmopolitan energy, Paros and Naxos with their relaxed Cycladic beauty, Crete with its deep history and dramatic landscapes, Rhodes with its medieval layers, Corfu with its lush greenery and Venetian influence, and tiny postcard-pretty escapes where life seems to slow to the rhythm of the sea.

On the mainland, Greece offers a different kind of wonder: Delphi’s haunting mountain setting, the monasteries of Meteora suspended above the world on stone pillars, the Peloponnese with its ancient sites and coastal drives, and Thessaloniki’s lively café culture and layered Byzantine, Ottoman, and modern identity. Add in lazy afternoons by impossibly blue water, late dinners that stretch for hours, ferry rides between islands, and a culture built around hospitality, and it’s easy to see why Greece stays in people’s hearts long after they leave.

Whether you’re planning a honeymoon, an island-hopping summer adventure, a history-heavy first trip to Europe, a family vacation, or a dreamy Mediterranean escape with long lunches and even longer sunsets, Greece delivers something unforgettable.

But here’s the practical reality nobody wants to think about until it becomes a problem: none of it works if your devices are dead.

Maps, ferry tickets, hotel bookings, eSIMs, translation apps, camera batteries, and all those sunset photos from Santorini or the Acropolis — they all depend on power. Greece runs on 230V / 50Hz, which can be a nasty surprise if you’re coming from a 110–120V country. The wrong setup can leave you with fried hair tools, a dead phone, or chargers that don’t fit when you need them most.

That’s why this guide exists.

This is a complete, no-nonsense Greece outlet, plug, and voltage guide, with clear explanations and practical packing advice for travelers from every region of the world. Scroll to your country below for exactly what you need — no guessing, no surprises. (Modeled after my popular Japan guideItaly guideFrance guide, India guide, and Thailand guide.)

⚡ Quick Overview: What You Need for Greece

Plug Adapter (Essential)

Greece uses Type C and Type F plugs.
👉 A universal adapter that covers C / E / F is your easiest and most reliable option.

✔ Dual-Voltage Electronics (Adapter Only)

Phones, laptops, tablets, cameras, power banks, and most modern chargers labeled 100–240V need only a plug adapter in Greece — no converter required.

✔ Single-Voltage Small Appliances (Converter Required)

Hair dryers, curling irons, straighteners, steamers, and other small appliances rated 110–120V only can be damaged by Greece’s 230V power unless you use a step-down voltage converter.
In many cases, a dual-voltage travel version is the safer and easier option.

Multi-Port USB Charger

Hotel rooms — especially in older buildings, small guesthouses, and some island accommodations — may not have enough convenient outlets near the bed or mirror. A multi-port charger makes life much easier.

Travel Power Strip

Choose one that is surge-protected, 100–240V compatible, and ideally includes USB ports. It turns one outlet into a mini charging station.

Power Bank

A must for long sightseeing days, ferry transfers, beach days, full-day excursions, and heavy photo/navigation use. If you want help choosing one, check out my power bank guide.

Electronics Organizer

Keeps cords, chargers, adapters, and little tech essentials contained so you’re not digging through your suitcase five minutes before a ferry departure.

💡 Travel Hack:

A universal adapter + travel power strip + multi-port USB charger = an instant charging hub anywhere in Greece.

🇬🇷 Greece’s Electrical Basics

Plug Types Used:

Type C – Round, ungrounded
Type F – Round with side clips (Schuko)

Type C plugs fit many smaller electronics chargers. Type F is also standard and very common throughout Greece.

Voltage: 230V (nationwide)
Frequency: 50 Hz

✔ Safe (With Only an Adapter)

Phones
Laptops
Tablets
Cameras
Power banks
E-readers / Kindles
Bluetooth headphones / earbuds
Most modern USB chargers

Not Always Safe

Hair dryers
Curling irons
Straighteners
Steamers
Heating pads
Electric kettles
Cheap or older chargers
Any device labeled 120V only

Check the Voltage Label Before You Pack

Look at the small print on each charger or device:

“110V” or “120V only” → Not safe in Greece. You must use a voltage converter, or the device can burn out.

“100–240V” → Safe in Greece. You only need a plug adapter.

Frequency Note:

The 50Hz vs 60Hz difference is usually not a big deal for phones, laptops, and similar electronics. Motor-based or heat-based appliances may not perform exactly the same.

Consistency:

Greece’s electrical system is consistent nationwide, including the islands. Whether you’re in Athens, Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Rhodes, Corfu, or Meteora, the plug types and voltage are the same. Older hotels or historic properties may have fewer outlets, so a charging setup matters even more.

💡Traveling around Europe too? Greece uses the same voltage and common plug types as much of continental Europe, which makes multi-country trips much easier. It’s always a good idea to check each country you’re traveling to before you leave just in case you have an oddball.

🇺🇸 United States

Home: 120V, 60 Hz, Type A/B.
Vs. Greece: Different plug shapes and much higher voltage in Greece. You’ll need a plug adapter for almost everything, and a step-down voltage converter for any single-voltage 120V appliances. Frequency is also slightly different, though that usually matters more for motorized or heat-based tools than for modern electronics.

🎒 Final Tips for Greece

A scenic Greek coastal view with whitewashed buildings, blue water, and sunlit hills in the background.

Most travelers only need an adapter. Phones, laptops, cameras, and power banks are almost always dual-voltage.

Adapters change plug shape, not voltage. If a device is single-voltage, plugging it into 230V power without a converter can permanently damage it.

Greek outlets are straightforward and consistent. Greece uses Type C and Type F plugs nationwide, including the islands.

Outlets can still be limited. In older hotels, historic buildings, guesthouses, and small island stays, convenient outlets may be in short supply. A power strip solves this instantly.

USB ports aren’t guaranteed. Don’t assume your hotel room, ferry cabin, or bedside lamp will have built-in USB charging.

Hair tools are the biggest risk. If yours isn’t dual-voltage, either bring a converter, use hotel-provided tools, or switch to a dual-voltage travel version.

Power banks are invaluable. Ferries, beach clubs, archaeological sites, island-hopping days, and long sightseeing days drain phones fast.

Greece’s power is consistent nationwide. Once you’re prepared, you’re set from Athens to Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Corfu, Rhodes, Meteora, and beyond.

Power outages are not a major issue for most travelers, but they can happen occasionally, especially during storms, heat waves, or in smaller island areas. Devices with batteries like laptops, phones, and Kindles will be fine, but smaller plug-in appliances may be temporarily unusable until power returns.

💡 Bottom line:
If your gear says 100–240V and you have a universal adapter, you’re good to go. Everything else is mostly about convenience.
