I always travel with a tiny essential oils kit — not because I’m trying to be “extra,” but because these are the same oils and blends that save my sanity and well-being in everyday life at home. When you travel, little problems can feel bigger: stress, sleep disruption, headaches, bug bites, digestive weirdness, sore muscles from walking, crowded airports, unfamiliar beds, and long days that run on pure adrenaline.
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. This is at no extra cost to you and helps support my blog.
So I bring a small kit that helps me stay comfortable, grounded, and functional anywhere.
And here’s the key: I don’t bring full-size bottles.
My rule: tiny bottles only (1.5–2 mL minis) + top them off before each trip
I use 1–2 mL mini bottles for travel.
Yes, 5 mL, 10 mL, and 15 mL bottles are TSA-friendly — but they’re also way more oil than you could realistically need on a normal trip. I’d rather keep my kit truly compact and simply top off my mini bottles before each trip. It takes up less space, keeps the kit lightweight, and I still have everything I actually use.
How I pack my oils for travel: Touch rollers vs neat bottles
Most of what I pack goes into 2 mL mini roller bottles (the “Touch” style), because they’re:
- fast to use
- less messy
- perfect for travel days when you just want to apply and move on
Some of my rollers are doTERRA Touch versions, and some are Touch versions I make myself.
I also pack a few oils neat in tiny bottles for two reasons:
- Travel diffuser use (especially in the evenings)
- The rare moments when I want a stronger option and don’t want to mess with a roller
A couple specifics:
- Lemon: always packed neat.
- Breathe: I bring both a Touch roller and a neat bottle, because when you need it… you need it.
The little case I swear by (it holds 15+ oils)

My travel case is tiny but shockingly functional.
- It holds 12 mini bottles securely in the foam slots (they don’t rattle around).
- The mesh pocket on top fits about 3-5 more of the same tiny bottles.
- Realistically, I can fit 15+ oils/blends in one little case — which is basically everything I need for any trip going anywhere.
It’s compact enough to toss into a carry-on or personal item without thinking, and it’s one of those travel systems that makes you feel weirdly organized.
What I pack separately (still essential, just not inside the case)
A few items don’t go in the case, but they always come with me:
- On Guard Sanitizing Spray (packed separately)
- TerraShield Spray (packed separately)
- Deep Blue Stick (packed separately)
I do keep a small bottle of On Guard oil inside the case, because it’s one of those “you almost always need it on a trip” oils.
What’s in my mini doTERRA travel kit (and why)
I group my oils the way I actually use them while traveling. Your kit might look different — and that’s the point. This is what works for me.
Airport + plane + crowded travel days
These are my “I’m traveling through humanity and who knows what I’m exposed to” oils.
- On Guard
Always packed. I keep a small bottle in the case even if I’m also bringing the spray separately. - Breathe
I pack this two ways: a Touch roller for quick use and a neat bottle for those moments when I want more.
Stress, overstimulation, and emotional grounding
Travel can be magical, but it can also be overstimulating. These help me stay calm and grounded.
- Adaptiv
- Balance
- Peace
- Forgive
- Serenity
This is my calming oil and my lavender stand-in. I don’t bring separate lavender — Serenity covers that role for me.
“Girly things” (always packed)
Travel has a funny way of summoning hormone-week problems, even when you weren’t expecting them. Women just know.
So yes — my “girly things” blend is always in my travel kit. Mine is a simple combo of clary sage, lavender, and geranium. If you prefer a ready-made option, doTERRA ClaryCalm is also a great choice for cycle comfort.
Digestion + “my stomach has opinions today” comfort
Food changes. Water changes. Timing changes. Sometimes your stomach has thoughts.
- Tamer
I used to reach for DigestZen more, but these days Tamer is my preference. It’s just more comforting to me.
Head + body comfort

I build my kit around what I actually reach for on long travel days.
- Children’s Rescuer
This is my favorite for head comfort. If I could only bring one, it would be this. - Deep Blue (oil in the case)
And Deep Blue Stick packed separately because it’s so easy after long walking days. - PastTense
Another one I like having available in tiny form for when I need something stronger.
Bugs + outdoor time (and the blue tansy warning)
If I’m going somewhere warm, coastal, humid, or garden-heavy, this category matters.
- TerraShield
I bring the TerraShield spray depending on the trip location. - Bug bites blend (blue tansy warning)
My personal bug bites blend is a travel essential, and the most important oil in it is blue tansy. Fair warning: it can temporarily tint your skin blue. Worth it in my opinion — but you should know before you dab it on in public.
The “randomly useful in real life” oil I always pack
- Lemon (neat)
Lemon is one of those oils that ends up being useful in ways you can’t always predict, and I like having it available in tiny form.
The heavy hitter
- Oregano
Oregano is one of my “heavy hitter” oils, so I pack a tiny bottle for travel. I don’t use it every day, but when I’m on a trip and want a stronger support option — especially after long flights, crowded airports, or when I’m feeling run down — I like having it available.
The travel diffusers I use (hotel room + plane)
I use two different types of diffusers for two different travel moods:
1) A tabletop travel diffuser (for hotel rooms)
This one uses water and sits on a table. I like it for:
- hotel rooms
- decompressing at night
- making the space feel calmer and more “mine”
- winding down after long days
I’ll often use Serenity in the evenings because it sets the mood for a calmer night.
💡Fair warning many so-called “travel diffusers” are waterless making for very strong essential oil presence in the room (especially smaller rooms) when diffused. I am personally not much of a fan of these. I prefer the smaller ones that still take water to use even if it means more time refilling them with water.
2) Necklace diffusers (for planes + long stressful days)

Necklace diffusers are underrated.
They’re perfect for:
- planes
- long day trips
- crowded travel days
- situations where I know I’ll feel more stress
On those days, I’ll often put Serenity in the necklace diffuser because it helps me stay calm and grounded.
Why I love a tiny kit (and why I refill it before each trip)
This kit isn’t about being fancy. It’s about being prepared.
When you travel, you don’t want to:
- drag a huge “wellness bag”
- pack full-size bottles you’ll never finish
- bring so much stuff you hate your luggage
You want something small that covers the moments that actually happen.
So I keep it minimalist:
- tiny bottles + Touch rollers
- top everything off before each trip
- pack sprays/sticks separately
- bring the same core oils I already use in daily life
If you want to copy my setup, here’s what I recommend
If you want to build your own tiny travel oils kit, the essentials are:
- a small hard case with foam slots (like mine)
- 2 mL mini roller bottles for Touch versions
- 1–2 mL mini bottles for diffuser use + a few neat “stronger option” oils
- a tabletop travel diffuser (optional but cozy)
- a necklace diffuser (highly recommend for flights)
And then choose oils/blends you already love and actually use.
Because the best travel kit isn’t the biggest one — it’s the one you’ll reach for when you need it.
